Wholeness Through Horsemanship™ —

"Educating people in the ways of partnership with horses."

About the Program

The top priority at MRH is creating mutually beneficial relationships between horses and the people who love them. There are two components to the program that work together in developing these successful and long-lasting partnerships: Wholeness Through Horsemanship™ and the Wanted Horse Training Program™.

The Wholeness Through Horsemanship™ program is designed as a progressive and comprehensive curriculum, providing students with a solid foundation upon which to build their horsemanship dreams. Emphasis is placed on understanding the horse's instinctive nature, as well as our own, as it relates to the experience of ultimate partnership with horses. Relationships that are characterized by mutual respect and trust are established through groundwork, after which the privilege of riding may then be enjoyed. Horse owners and enthusiasts alike will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become their horse's trusted and respected partner, both on the ground and in the saddle.

MRH offers a broad selection of courses and clinics designed with the safety and success of the student - human and horse alike, in mind. The MRH Courses are the foundation to the program, are more than one day in length and require prerequisites due to their progressive and comprehensive nature. The MRH Clinics are supplements to the foundational courses, are typically one day in length and do not have prerequisites. Courses are scheduled 4 - 6 weeks apart allowing students time to practice and solidify their newly acquired skills through the means of private and semi-private instruction.

    CANCELLATION POLICY:

Courses and Clinics: Please be sure you are willing to commit to attending the course or clinic as payment is NON - REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE to another event. Spot in course or clinic may be transferable to another individual of your choice, although the individual must have met the prerequisites, (if applicable) for the course or clinic. You are responsible for filling your spot should you cancel. Please check in with us should we have a wait list.

If you have an injured horse, please supply us with a vet note and the tuition will be transferred for use in another course or clinic.

We reserve the right to cancel, and/or reschedule due to lack of registration or severe weather. If the clinic is rescheduled your tuition will be rolled over to be used for the new event date. If it is not rescheduled or you are not able to attend the rescheduled date, your registration is then eligible to be transferred to another event or for a refund.

Private and Semi-private Instruction: If the instructor must cancel a lesson for any reason, every reasonable attempt will be made to notify the student as early as possible. The instructor will reschedule the lesson in a mutually satisfactory manner. If you are not able to attend the rescheduled date, your lesson fee is then eligible to be transferred to another event or for a refund.

If the student is unable to attend a lesson, a 24 hour notice is requested for private and semi-private instruction in Nebraska. Lessons cancelled with less than 24-hour notice, except in the event of extreme weather, are subject to lesson fee.

Private and semi-private instruction in Colorado requires a two-week notice for cancellation. Lessons cancelled with less than two-week notice are subject to lesson fee. Although cancellations of less than two-week notice are non-refundable, they are fully transferable to another individual of your choice.

Instructor may be notified of cancellation either in person, by email, or by phone. Please note that text messaging is not a permissible means of cancellation.

Private and Semi-private Intensives: The 50% deposit is non-refundable, though one transfer of dates is permitted. A second cancellation of dates would merit no refund nor further transferability.

Auditing: Auditor tickets are non-refundable, but transferable to another individual of your choice.

    SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE:

Proper Attire: All participants must wear appropriate gear when around horses. This includes: long pants (either jeans or riding pants), hard-soled, fully enclosed boots with a heel and an approved riding helmet. MRHT requires that all participants under the age of 19 wear an ASTM/SEI-certified helmet fastened securely under the chin while riding horses. MRHT strongly advises all non-minor participants to wear an ASTM/SEI-certified helmet fastened securely under the chin while riding horses. If you choose to not wear a riding helmet you MUST sign the Hard Hat Waiver of Liability.

Horse Care: Proper catching, grooming and saddling will be taught in the initial courses, clinics or lessons with instructor supervision. When the student becomes comfortable and familiar with proper horse care and handling, they are then responsible for preparing their lesson horse prior to the start of the lesson. In order to ensure the full amount of scheduled instruction time, participants should arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled session to perform these tasks and plan on staying at least 15-20 minutes after the lesson to unsaddle, cool down, and groom their horse. If the student is late and therefore the preparation cuts into the session time, additional lesson time is not guaranteed. In order to fully benefit from your allotted session, plan to arrive early and start on time.

Horse Health: Student agrees to abide by the barn rules and policies of any facilities hosting MRH events. This includes providing any and all documents required by host facility to permit horse on their grounds (i.e. proof of negative Coggins, health certificate, brand inspection).

Barn Etiquette: Students are responsible for the general cleanup behind their horse at the MRH facility as well as at facilities that host MRH events. Students are required to follow all barn rules as posted and act in a manner courteous of other people, horses and property.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    • Groundwork is learning how to understand and communicate with the horse from the ground. The goal is to gain the ability to control the horse's movement, which is how leadership is established in the horse's natural language. Being viewed by the horse as their respected and trusted herd leader is essential, as it helps to ensure safety, success, and a mutually beneficial partnership once on their back. Learn more about the natural language of the horse in Emily's collection of articles.
    • Absolutely not! MRH has a wonderful group of lesson horses available for your learning. In fact, taking horsemanship lessons prior to owning your first horse is highly recommended and is a terrific gift to your future equine partner.
    • Yes. All students begin with the Horsemanship 101 course, as it is the foundation upon which a "sky is the limit" relationship is enjoyed with horses. New students find that it provides them with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the world of horses with confidence. And more experienced students often report that the course filled in the gaps in their understanding of horses and increased their knowledge of the "how" and "why" in horsemanship. You may read about what past students have said about their experience in the Horsemanship 101 course on the What People are Saying page.
    • At MRH, riding a horse is seen as a privilege that is earned. All students, regardless of prior experience, begin with groundwork in order to gain the position of respected and trusted herd leader. Gaining this position—and the horse's permission to ride which accompanies it—can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on each student's rate of learning.
